I am a botanist with a little thing for flowers.
I examine how gene interactions defining novel traits evolve. I address this question with a model system: the CYCLOIDEA-MYB interaction in zygomorphic flowers. I employ gene downregulation, quantitative gene expression, morphological/anatomical analyses, phylogenetic analyses, and bioinformatic methods to understand how such gene interactions have evolved. When I am not dissecting flowers, I idle over connecting botany and evolutionary biology with the study of history, culture, and cuisine. |
